Mom advocates letting baby sleep in the shower on vacation

“When we travel, our baby sleeps in the shower,” begins an already viral TikTok clip, lifestyle influencer Chloe Molina.

The 25-year-old mom of one quickly followed that up with, “Let me explain,” to all the commenters like me who were like, “HUH?”

“Yes, our baby sleeps in the shower, but he sleeps in a crib in the shower and the reason we do that is because for us, when our baby sleeps in our room, he smells like he sees us, he just knows that we we’re there and he’ll wake up all the time,” she explains.

So she and her husband David “give him his room,” or bathroom.

The mother of the five-month-old continues: “Usually the bathroom isn’t big enough, so we put the cot in the shower and then open the bathroom door, so it can feel like he has his own room, his own space. . He doesn’t smell us, he doesn’t see us, he has his own room.

“Honestly it’s much better to put it in the shower because you can close the curtain a bit and still pee without them seeing you in there.”

She closes the clip by saying it’s her “number one travel hack” because “your kid gets their own room without paying for another room.”

The mum was immediately inundated with comments from worried followers, with one person saying: “No my baby, most showers have mould”.

“I’d be very worried about the water pipe bursting in the middle of the night,” said someone else. “Or the hot water is turning on.”

“Personally, with the strong cleaning agents that clean hotel room bathrooms with, this is the LAST place I would put my baby in all night,” added a third, while others had issues with air quality, fecal matter, bath temperature, and the potential for the baby to crawl out of its crib and onto the tiles.

A fourth person wrote: “No, I would never have.”

Then others called it “wild”, “sad” and even “terrible”.

However, not everyone was so judgmental

Several commenters defended the parents’ decision, with one saying: “They do what works for their family. You don’t have to agree, but you don’t have to judge either!”

“Great (30+ parents here),” claimed another viewer.

Others even admitted that they were doing the same with their children.

“Haha, I did this on a holiday! We had a suite paid for by my husband’s company and it had two bathrooms. One went back to the baby’s room,” shared one mother.

And someone else replied, “We literally do this every time we go away.”

Mother responds to feedback

Speaking of THE PEOPLEthe mother for the first time spoke about the unusual sleeping arrangement.

“I don’t really live in that mindset of fear of parenting in the first place. We don’t sit and live in fear,” Chloe said.

“My background is that you should do whatever you think is best. You were chosen to be the parent of this baby, so if you think the best decision is to put them in the shower in the bathroom, that’s fine.

“Everyone has their own parenting style and you are able to choose what is right based on what you believe is right for your child.”
